Centrifugal glass wool is a porous sound absorbing material with good sound absorption performance.  The reason why centrifugal glass wool can absorb sound is not because its surface is rough, but because it has a large number of tiny pores and holes connected inside and outside.  When the sound wave incident on the centrifugal glass wool, the sound wave can follow the pores into the material, causing the air molecules in the gap to vibrate.  Due to the viscous resistance of air and the friction between air molecules and pore walls, sound energy is converted to heat energy and lost.

Centrifugal glass wool has good sound absorption performance for high frequency sound.  The main factors affecting the sound absorption performance of centrifugal glass wool are thickness, density and air resistance.  Density is the weight of material per cubic meter.  Air resistance is the ratio of air pressure on both sides of the material to air velocity per unit thickness.  Air resistance is the most important factor affecting the sound absorption performance of centrifugal glass wool.  The flow resistance is too small, indicating that the material is sparse, the air vibration is easy to pass through, and the sound absorption performance decreases;  Flow resistance is too large, that the material is dense, air vibration is difficult to enter, sound absorption performance is also reduced.  For centrifugal glass wool, the best flow resistance exists.  In practical engineering, it is difficult to measure air resistance, but the sound-absorbing performance of glass wool can be roughly estimated and controlled by thickness and bulk density.
